Nicolas Cage has become somewhat of a cult figure over his long career. While some aren't a fan of his distinctively "Nic Cage" acting style, others just can't resist checking out his movies.

From his start in the 1980s through memorable 1990s flicks like "The Rock", "Face/Off" and "Con-Air" to his satirical career retrospective 2022 film "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent", Nic has built a long career with plenty of fans over the decades.

To kick off 2023, Northland Nic Cage fans will have an opportunity to celebrate the career of Mr. Cage with a "mini Nicolas Cage film fest & birthday celebration" at the Duluth Depot.

The free event, called "'Caged' In At The Depot", will feature three Cage classics along with other fun - and even waffles!

The Depot refers to this as "an experience this community has never had before", calling it the "first-ever mini-Nicolas Cage Film Fest (& birthday celebration) in Minnesota".

Doors open at 5 pm on Friday, January 6, with the first of three featured films set to begin at 5:30 pm. Showing first will be National Treasure, followed by Con-Air at approximately 8:00 pm and Face/Off rounding out the mini-film fest at about 10:15 pm.

Besides the movies, a cash bar and concession stand will be available, along with waffles from Superior Waffles - because, why not? Waffles are amazing, right? Trivia and prizes will also be part of the fun.

The evening will wrap up with a Nic Cage birthday celebration, commemorating Cage's 59th birthday - which is January 7. Organizers say "we'll be celebrating in style when the time is right".

While organizers say everyone is welcome for this unique, free event, they do remind families that two of the three movies are rated R, and recommend children only attend the first movie, which is PG.

So, if you're looking for something quirky and free to do Friday night and into Saturday, this will be hard to beat.

On a semi-related Nic Cage note, if you haven't seen Cage's 2022 movie "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent", give it a watch. Even if you're not a huge fan of Cage, it's a fun ride. The movie pokes some fun at Cage, Pedro Pascal, Tiffany Haddish, and Neil Patrick Harris offer great performances. It's just a fun, enjoyable movie to enjoy some cold winter night when you have nothing better to do.
