While we didn't have an extremely snowy winter, it's been a long wait for golfers to get back out on the links at courses in Northern Minnesota and Northern Wisconsin.

Some Minnesotans and Wisconsinites take pride in being among the first people on the course for the season. Even if it means braving some chilly weather or other early-season obstacles.

For those new to golf, some early-season things you might need to be aware of include things like greens and fairways that aren't fully "greened-up" and playing at normal speeds, moist ground conditions (sometimes prohibiting golf carts), occasionally chilly temperatures, and sometimes even a little leftover snow or ice.

A late-season burst of snow and some lingering wet and chilly conditions have been pushing some courses' opening dates back across Northern Minnesota and Northern Wisconsin.

Despite that, there are several that are already open, with others preparing to open very soon.
