Our midweek rain event moving through Minnesota brought with it a drenching rain as things got underway Tuesday across the region.

Prior to rain getting underway, the National Weather Service office in Duluth had issued a forecast for widespread rain that could exceed an inch by the end of Wednesday. The North Shore, extending from the Duluth area all the way up to Grand Portage showed a forecast that could include up to 2-3 inches of rain between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Early Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service shared some news that several Northern Minnesota communities had actually received a record amount of rainfall throughout the day.

The record stands as the greatest amount of rain ever recorded on this date in the Northland's recorded weather history. Many of those records that were broken on Tuesday had stood for between 40 and 50 years!
