What’s The Story Behind This Weird City Ordinance In Minnesota?

Let's face it - we all love reading up on weird laws across the country. We especially love hearing about strange things that are supposedly prohibited in our neck of the woods.

I was reading up on some weird laws in the Minnesota area and honestly, couldn't decide which one was the goofiest of them all. One of them definitely intrigued me more than the others though and it has to do with odd and even numbers.

According to Ranker.com, "residents [in Cottage Grove] of even numbered addresses may not water their plants on odd-numbered days." This seemed weird so I did some research to try to learn why this was a thing in the first place.

It turns out there is a simple reason for it: water conservation. According to the city's website, the law is in place "to encourage conservation and prevent excessive use of water."

Therefore, those Cottage Grove residents with even numbered addresses water their lawns on even numbered days and those with odd numbered addresses water theirs on odd numbered days.

I thought this would be a lot juicier but at least now we all know the truth. I wonder which weird law I will feel inclined to debunk next time! Ha!
