The COVID-19 pandemic hit the travel industry incredibly hard, but it looks like things are finally starting to turn around.

The Duluth International Airport shared the most recent travel statistics, and it appears that DLH is starting to return to normal, with an over 1000% increase in total passengers from April 2020 to April 2021.

April's data is the latest available, and it shows that in April 2021, 13,813 total passengers traveled through DLH, that compares to only 1,243 in April 2020, that is a 1,071% increase, and it's the first month in 2021 where the total passengers was higher than the 2020 number.

But if we look back to 2019, passenger numbers are still dramatically down, in April 2019, the Duluth Airport had a total of 23,060 passengers, that is more than traveled during, April, May, June, July and August of 2020, combined. Hopefully the numbers continue to climb as more people feel comfortable to travel again.

The Minneapolis Airport is also rebounding, during May of 2021, MSP had a total of 2,088,271 passengers, that's an increase from the 284,070 passengers during the same time in 2020, an over 600% increase.

The Duluth Airport has a long way to go to get back to pre-pandemic traffic, total passengers in 2019 equaled 313,980, in 2020 is was more than cut in half to 129,508, and so far in 2021 (January - April) there have been a total of 47,609 passengers, so a long way to go, but not impossible.

Three airlines fly flights out of Duluth currently, United, Delta, and Sun Country with flights to Minneapolis/St. Paul, Chicago, Fort Myers, and Phoenix, so find a fun place to visit and safe travels.
