After three consecutive, destructive storms in the past two years, October 2017, April 2018, damaged Duluth's Lakewalk, an intensive reconstruction plan was put into place.  Phase II is preparing to begin.

The City of Duluth has announced Phase II of the Lakewalk Reconstruction project will begin on Monday, June 24th, 2019.  Phase II involves the reconstruction of the shoreline from Fitger’s to the Northland Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The asphalt and boardwalk trails will be replaced during this phase.

This week, through June 23, crews are onsite removing debris from the Lakewalk so that the public can access the trails safely.

Wayfinding signs have been placed around the Lakewalk construction zone sharing detour routes with the public.  Phase II is expected to completed in early August, at which time the section impacted will reopen to the public.

Funding for the project was made available through Federal and State disaster declarations.  The reconstruction is a redesign by the City of Duluth to help better withstand the challenging climate conditions near Lake Superior.
