Popular Duluth Hotspot With One Of The Best Views In Town Is Permanently Closing After ‘One Last Time’ Music Event

The popular bar, nightclub, and music venue Rex Bar in the Fitger's complex in Duluth shared some sad news recently on Facebook.

Fans of the business may have heard rumors that the establishment would be closing soon, and those rumors have seemingly been confirmed by the owners. The closure is coming up quickly, too.

Located on the basement level of Fitger's, this has been a favorite for locals and visitors to the Twin Ports area for a number of years - with great drinks, live music, and a patio view of Lake Superior regulars rave about.

In a Facebook event listing, it is shared that the bar will throw one last hurrah before permanently closing after the end of its business day on Friday, August 11. The event will include live music from three different bands throughout the course of the evening.

Being billed as the "One Last Time" event, local favorites Big Wave Dave & the Ripples will open the night of music, followed by Àlamode, with Dirty Horse wrapping up the lineup of musical acts. All three acts have ties to the bar, sharing lots of memories with bar staff and patrons over the years.

In a separate Facebook post on their band page, Big Wave Dave & the Ripples credited the Rex for helping them to become the act they are today. They commented "Pretty safe to say that we wouldn't be the group we are today if it weren't for the Rex Bar giving us a chance and letting us play there on Thursday nights all those years ago, and every show there since."

If you're looking to be part of the celebration of the years of fun at the Rex before they close, doors open at 8:15 on Friday, August 11. Big Wave Dave will start playing around 9:15, with Àlamode scheduled for around 10:15 and Dirty Horse for around 11:15. This is a 21+ event with a $10 cover charge.
