Who needs a famous groundhog to determine if we will have 6 more weeks of winter? The Lake Superior Zoo has Spike the Porcupine.

As of this morning Puxatawny Phil did not see his shadow, so that means an early Spring, but what about us here in the Northland? Lake Superior Zoo is closed today (Tuesday) as part of it's winter hours, but non winter lovers are sure hoping for the clouds to roll in, so no shadow for Spike.

I am lucky enough to say that I have met Spike up close and personal and was even able to pet him, very carefully and with supervision from a zoo employee. He is super cute, but did you know that porcupines have a unique odor? I described it as a B.O. kind of smell, yep not to to appealing. But anyway, I am cheering for a short rest of winter, even though we have been awfully lucky so far I must say.
