You’ve only days to wait until The Walking Dead unleashes its first trailer for Season 8 at Comic-Con 2017, but why not get a head start? Literally, as heads are all over the new Season 8 key art, which also sets an October premiere (with a little Fear thrown in).

Seven years in, The Walking Dead was bound to conflict with fan-favorites taking other work. AMC’s horror smash usually takes precedence, but according to recent reports, at least three Walking Dead favorites will have reduced roles in Season 8.

The Walking Dead has always pushed the boundaries of gore and violence, though Season 7 understandably reached a certain plateau with its batty premiere. Some producers even suggested that fan reaction inspired them to tone down Season 7’s bloodlust, though showrunners now say otherwise.

It’s been an exceptionally punishing year for fans of The Walking Dead, who first endured the cop-out of Negan’s entrance, a summer spent waiting, and about eight episodes since of misery under The Saviors’ reign. Rick will finally fight back when Season 7 returns in February, and Andrew Lincoln insists “There’s a lot more levity, if you can believe that.”

The Walking Dead Season 7 may have taken a full eight episodes to get Rick raring to fight back against Negan, but the latter half isn’t wasting any time forging alliances. Our first clip from the 2017 premiere sees Jesus proposing an unorthodox, but kingly solution to the new rebellion’s shortage of soldiers.

AMC isn’t one to look a rotting gift horse like The Walking Dead in the mouth, extending its highest-rated series so long as creator Robert Kirkman provides comic source material. That relationship doesn’t necessarily extend both ways, however, as Kirkman acknowledges AMC has zero input or foreknowledge of any potential story shakeups.
