Surprising: Just One Target Store For Wisconsin In 2025–26
With its roots in Minnesota, Target had much of the Midwest covered with stores early in its history. Over the decades, it became a household name across the region, known for its bright red bullseye and convenient one-stop shopping. Today, much of the retail giant’s expansion is happening down South.

New Store Coming to Brown Deer, WI
The new Target location will be built in the current location of a mostly vacant shopping center in Brown Deer, WI, which is just north of Milwaukee. The retailer purchased 9.6 acres with plans to build a brand-new 128,000-square-foot store, offering an updated shopping experience for area residents.
The development, called The Marketplace of Brown Deer, will also include some smaller retail locations and restaurants, along with a new 124-unit apartment complex.
Target recently set a goal to build 300 new stores over the next decade. In 2025, they plan to open around 20 new stores across the United States. They’re also in the process of remodeling all of their nearly 2,000 existing stores to keep things fresh and modern.
Target Locations in Wisconsin
Currently, Wisconsin is home to 38 Target locations. Madison has the highest concentration with four stores, while Appleton, Green Bay, Milwaukee, and Waukesha each have two stores.
