This morning Jeanne and I talked about the "average" American and how much they spend on Christmas.  Despite the economy, this survey found that the average American plans to spend $751 on gifts this year… up 22% from last year.

Only 27% think the economy will get better in the next year… down 10% from last year.

And 61% say the current state of the economy is poor.

Of course, the average will depend on how many kids you have, how big your extended family is, and how many people you exchange gifts with.  I think I am below the average, at least this year.  But I may have to wait until that credit card statement comes in next month.

What do you think?  Did you spend more or less than $751 on gifts this year?  Or for the procrastinating folks, do you think you'll spend more or less?
