The Minnesota Slip Bridge has been a staple in Canal Park for over 25 years and it will finally start getting the improvements the Bridge needs.

Last year, Mayor Larson announced that the City of Duluth is proposing to spend a little over $329,000 to design a retrofit for the bridge’s machinery drive

According to a press release, the project will replace the existing spool and cable system with a rack and pinion system. The reason for this replacement, is that the new rack and pinion system will operate much more reliably than the existing system. Construction on the slip bridge is to start on Monday  March 20, 2017. Construction is  expected to be completed by June of this year.

More construction on the bridge will commence later this year. I love the bridge and I'm glad to see the city is keeping up with updates on the Canal Park staple. Let me know what you think of the improvements in the comments.
