The Pandemic Housing Aid Deadline Is Coming Soon For Residents Of Minnesota

We see it on the news on a daily basis, the COVID-19 statistics of people that have died, who have tested positive, the over worked front line workers in hospitals and long term care facilities. People waiting for hours for food donations and others facing evictions or foreclosures on their homes.

Residents in Minnesota could get some help but the deadline to apply for state aid is this Monday night! If you have fallen behind on your rent, mortgage payment or utility payments because of the pandemic you might qualify for help. So far the COVID-19 Housing assistance program has already gotten more than 28,000 applications. Initially there was $67 million in total aid with about $30 million left as of November 30, but that was before December rent payments became due.

Katrina Hall, of Albert Lea, said:

She lost her job in March, like many people did, because of the pandemic, but her rent and utilities were still coming due. She was “in a pretty big bind” when she learned about the program. I can’t say enough how much this program has meant to me and my family. … It’s really changed my life.
