You see and hear about therapy dogs everywhere nowadays in hospitals, nursing homes, Dr. Offices, schools etc. so why not at a funeral home? Ryan Scharfencamp  is the General manager of Gearhart Funeral Home and he feels the same way. We all know how tough it can be to attend a funeral, and I have sure been to more than my share of them. Having a therapy dog would be such a relief and comfort to so many people during such a difficult time.

In October of 2018 Scharfencamp and his daughter made an unplanned visit to the Coon Rapids Humane Society. Although they were not planning on getting a dog that day once they let her out of her kennel, that was it, they totally fell in love with this cute little dog.

The dog "Jackie" bonded very quickly with Scharfencamp's daughter Elise and was so gentle and loving that he knew she would be a great fit for a therapy dog at the funeral home. She knows many commands and overall is a great distraction for the patrons providing unconditional love. Jackie is wrapping up her last class this week and if she passes the test she will be a certified therapy dog! For more on this story click here.
