UPDATE: 4:05 pm 11/1/21

In a very brief press conference, head coach Mike Zimmer confirmed that Danielle Hunter has a torn pectoral muscle, ending his 2021 season.

The press conference, which was only a matter of a few minutes long, addressed a few questions related to Sunday night's game. Among those questions, Zimmer offered single-word confirmations when asked if Hunter had a torn pec and if he was out for the rest of the season.

Timed with the press conference, the team's official Twitter account shared the news that he is indeed out for the rest of the season.

While there was a lot not to like about the Minnesota Vikings' Sunday Night Football appearance against the Dallas Cowboys, this news takes the cake.

After being out last season due to injury, Danielle Hunter was on track for a solid 2021 season for the Purple. He stands tied for 10th in the league in sacks, notching 6 so far this season. He had also logged 23 tackles, 10 QB hits, and 6 tackles for loss so far this year on a pace for another Hunter-like year. Until Sunday night.

During the game, Hunter went down to injury, exiting midway through the second quarter.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport tweeted Monday that the team is worried that the injury suffered less than halfway through Sunday's primetime game could be a pectoral muscle tear, which could end his season.

He reportedly was set to undergo an MRI Monday morning to confirm this news, but the team has not provided any further information as of mid-afternoon on Monday.

We will update this story with any additional news on Hunter's status.

In the meantime, the team comes out of the Sunday Night tilt against the Cowboys now with a 3-4 record, falling further behind the division-leading 7-1 Green Bay Packers.

The road doesn't get any easier for the Vikings, heading on the road for two straight weeks. They take on the 5-2 Baltimore Ravens this coming Sunday, followed up by a trip to the other coast for a game against the 4-3 Los Angeles Chargers before returning home for a November 21 noon game against the Packers.
