I spoke with my mom the other day and found out some pretty cool stuff that she and a lot of other people are doing. My mom is a retired teacher and an avid seamstress/quilter and is always looking for a project. When news of the shortage of personal protective equipment, she along with some of her friends stepped up to help the local hospital in their town.

They got supplies and started sewing away, spending hours and hours on end making cloth masks that healthcare workers can use over their N95 masks. The reason behind this is that they can use the cloth masks to go over the N95 masks when they go from room to room, without having to use a new N95 mask each time. It can really help stretch those vital protective N95 masks. They are following the directions and advice from Virginia Regional Hospital on what they need.

When I spoke with her the other day, the local fabric store, 'Material Girl' had been donating some fabric and greatly reducing costs to help out. They had already ran out of elastic for the masks, so my mother was cutting it lengthwise in half to make it go further.

I know a lot of people have been stepping up and helping, thanks to my mom, her friend Mary Lou, and all the other folks who have been pitching in. We're all in this together!
