The website Road Snacks used science and data to determine the worst places to live in the land of 10,000 lakes, see which Duluth area city made the list.

Road Snack analyzed 148 most populous cities (over 5,000 people), and came up with this list as the 10 worst places to live in Minnesota:

  1. Cambridge
  2. Brainerd
  3. Grand Rapids
  4. Cloquet
  5. International Falls
  6. Bemidji
  7. Virginia
  8. Isanti
  9. North Branch
  10. Waite Park

Looks like Cloquet was the Duluth area city that made the list. They used numerous sites to determine their results such as FBI crime data, the government census, Bureau of Labor Statistics and Sperling’s Best Places. Factors that went into determining the worst cities were:

  • Population density
  • Highest unemployment rates
  • Adjusted median income
  • High housing vacancy rate
  • Education
  • High crime

Let me know which cities you think should have or shouldn't have made the list in the comments. You can see what they say about each "worst" city here. They even rank  all 148 cities (if you're curious, Duluth ranks in at number 25 as the worst city to live in the frozen tundra) and the top 5 best cities to live in Minnesota:

  1. Maple Grove
  2. Edina
  3. Shoreview
  4. Plymouth
  5. Eden Prairie
