Why Are Babies Afraid Of Mall Santas?

Last weekend I finally took my daughters to go see Santa at the mall. My one year old instantly became upset when she saw Mr. Claus and I'm curious why.

Zoey (4 years old) finally got over her fear of mall Santas and this marked the first year that she didn't need us in the picture with her. Belladora (1) on the other hand, was not a fan. She's been around beards and strangers before and it's never an issue. For some reason when babies see those mall Santas, everything is suddenly not okay.
