I often find myself low on gas in Superior, but I can never bring myself to spend the extra change since gas is almost always cheaper in Duluth. Why is that?

According to an article from Business Insider, two thirds of gas cost is determined by crude oil cost and the rest comes from taxes, refining, distribution and marketing.

Good ole Gas Buddy let me know that the lowest gas currently in Duluth is $2.17 and the highest price is $2.24, while the average price overall in Minnesota is $2.20. Across the bridge in Superior the current low and high price is $2.23. Apparently not a lot of people use Gas Buddy in Superior. The average cost is Wisconsin however is $2.23.

If you're curious, here's a side by side comparison of tax rates between the two states from 2016. According to my dad, the difference used to be way more and it looks like it depends where you are in the city. So in case you were ever curious about the difference, here ya go.
