Wisconsin DMV Locations Make Temporary Changes To Service
DMV locations across Wisconsin are making temporary changes to the way they operate amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation shared details about the change via press release Tuesday (April 7th), detailing changes they have put in place to their operating systems until further notice. Here's what you need to know:
DMV service centers will be closed to all in-person transactions with three exceptions. Those exceptions are as follows:
- Those needing a commercial driver's license
- Voters needing identification and those who need to use the Identification Card Petition Process
- Those new to Wisconsin who need a driver's license or identification for voting purposes
If you do need to go to a DMV for any of the three reasons listed above, you are asked to call the DMV Communication Center ahead of time at 608-264-7447 to make an appointment. You can only visit a DMV and be helped if you have an appointment.
DMV locations across Wisconsin are also making a few other changes while we ride out the COVID-19 pandemic, including extending certain licenses by 60 days, moving ID card renewal completely online and deferring all emissions testing until a later date.
The Federal Real ID deadline has also been pushed back amid COVID-19. You now have until October 21st of 2021 to secure yours.
