Sad Viral Video Of Young Packers Fan Sparks Outpouring Of Support
I am so happy this story ended up with the conclusion it had.
Leading up to the Green Bay Packers game against the 49ers on November 24 at Lambeau Field, a 14-year-old named Joseph De La Rosa headed to a pregame party at a Wisconsin establishment with some family.
In their group was Joseph's uncle, a 49ers fan. Joseph and his brother wanted to take their uncle to a 49ers party before the game, so they headed to a party for 49ers fans that was being hosted by a fan organization called Niner Empire.
At the party, Joseph was selected as the winner of an autographed football, signed by 49ers star Christian McCaffrey. Joseph's brother Samuel caught a video of the young teenage fan heading to the stage after his name was announced as the winner of the football, showing one of the people hosting the giveaway pretending to give Joseph the football before pulling it away.
In a Facebook post with the now-viral video, Samuel explained that after denying Joseph the football because he was wearing Packers gear. The emcee then dunked on the poor kid asking him a question before pulling the mic away and hyping up the crowd in what almost seemed like a little celebration of denying an 8th grader a prize and serving him up some public humiliation.
Samuel said that they ended up picking a new winner, a 49ers fan.
While some people might understand wanting to give a 49ers fan a 49ers-themed prize at a party for the team's fans, the winner was a kid. If it was an adult, sure...do your trash-talking and give the prize to someone else. But, this was a kid.
Joseph told a Green Bay TV station he "felt embarrassed or judged and kind of ashamed" after the incident. While his favorite team is the Packers, Joseph said he's just a big sports fan.
Heck, a fan of any team would love to have a signed football from a star like CMC.
Well, karma came back in full force for not only the emcee who denied Joseph the prize, but also for the 49ers. The Packers beat the 49ers in a huge 38-10 victory at Lambeau. While that might be sweet revenge enough for some, the story gets even better.
It's been reported that someone from the 49ers got Joseph's contact information, later sending him a signed helmet, autographed by 49ers safety Talanoa Hufanga. Not McCaffrey, but I guess it's something. That isn't where it ends, though.
After hearing about this incident, two different 49ers fans were disappointed in how it was handled and each found and purchased an autographed Christian McCaffrey football to send to Joseph. He told Green Bay TV Station FOX 11 that he was excited, saying he couldn't believe people cared and wanted to send him these gifts.
So not only did his team get the victory over the 49ers, the team send him an autographed helmet, and two fans sent him autographed Christian McCaffrey footballs, but the quarterback of his favorite team also decided to do something.
Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love caught wind of the story, and sent him an autographed Packers jersey. While Joseph was appreciative of the various gifts he received, the Love jersey clearly stood out to him.
He told FOX 11 "I can't believe Jordan Love heard it. I'm going to frame it, up in my room, keep it for life.”
Joseph says he is very thankful for the outpouring of support and the gifts, saying "I hope this never happens to anyone else.”
