Because Marvel and DC seem to have gotten wind of the majority of our culture’s at best toleration of and at worst boredom with the current cookie-cutter state of superhero movies, both studios have been looking to bring in some new talent. Many of the upcoming films on Marvel’s slate will be directed by folks who only recently made their indie debuts. Now it looks like the studios are looking for fresh takes on the material in some more unexpected places. Like Aaron Sorkin, for instance.

Sorkin revealed to ComicBook.com that he is meeting with both Marvel and DC, during which he’ll hear some of the pitches the studios have come up with for him.

I happen to have meetings coming up with both DC and Marvel. I have to go into these meetings and tell them as respectfully as I can that I’ve never read a comic book. It’s not that I don’t like them, it’s just that I’ve never been exposed to one. So, I’m hoping that somewhere in their library is a comic book character that I’m gonna love and I’m going to want to go back and start reading from the first issue on.

Most everyone recognizes Sorkin from shows like The West Wing and The Newsroom and movies like The Social Network and Steve Jobs. All very realism-heavy dramas focusing on obsessive characters with big ideas who want to make the world a better place. Huh. Now that I put it like that, a Sorkinized superhero movie actually kinda makes sense.

Imagine: an entire movie set in a Stark Industries boardroom about Tony Stark trying to get his newest personal assistant prototype off the ground. LexCorp v. Wayne Enterprises. A Captain America: Civil War-scale conflict resolved with a few walk-and-talks along fluorescent-lit hallways. The DCEU is still in its baby stages compared to Marvel’s decade-spanning Phase 3, so maybe there’s a possibility of finding a Justice League member who suits Sorkin’s fancy.
