The Duluth Police Department Issued a Traffic Advisory for this weekend Via Face Book::

"Duluth Drag Races and Car Show will be held Saturday, September 8th, and Sunday, September 9th. The event will be held on Garfield Avenue.

Garfield Avenue will be closed to through-traffic between Superior Street and Nelson Street from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, and 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. Railroad Street will also be closed to through-traffic during these same times. There will be no access to Garfield Avenue from Railroad Street during the event. The event opens to the public at 9:00 a.m. each day.

The only access to the event for all drivers, car show participants, and spectators will be from West Superior Street to Garfield Avenue. Vehicles coming off the I-535 off ramp to Garfield Avenue or approaching from Railroad Street will not be able to get in to the event.

Goodwill Industries, Charter Communications, Rice’s Point, and the Port Terminal will be accessible from the I-535 Off-Ramp (at the Blatnik High Bridge) to Garfield Avenue and the Port Terminal. Follow the Port Terminal Detour from I-35 North or South.

Railroad Street businesses will only be accessible from Lake Avenue or 5th Avenue West to Railroad Street during the event.

A temporary detour around the Superior Street bridge construction during the event will send eastbound motorists up Glen Place Drive to eastbound First Street, up (northbound) Mesaba Ave. to 2nd Street, eastbound on 2nd Street to 3rd Avenue West, and southbound on 3rd Avenue West to Superior Street. Westbound motorists will be detoured from 1st Street to southbound Mesaba Ave, onto southbound I-35, off at the 21st Ave. W. Exit, south on 21st Ave. W. to Superior Street. Watch for detour signs along the route.

DTA buses will be using the First Street detour route in both directions during the event."
