For some people having a Family Dollar in their town is the only place to shop and save money. According to CBS3 Dollar Tree announced it is closing up to 390 Family Dollar stores this year and rebranding about 200 others under the Dollar Tree name.

Dollar Tree is based out of Chesapeake Virginia and acquired Family Dollar back in 2015 for $9 billion.  The company closed 84 Family Dollar Stores last year, and said they plan on renovating 1,000 stores this year. The company is currently trying to get reimbursed for rent paid for the stores they closed and if they don't get that money they will speed up the process of closing the Family Dollar Stores.

The company had 15,237 stores in 48 states and five Canadian provinces as of Feb. 2, no word on if any stores in Minnesota or Wisconsin would be affected by the closings. The Family Dollar stores in this immediate area is in Gary New Duluth and one on Belknap Street in Superior.
