Remember when Jay-Z and Kanye West wrecked a Maybach in their video for ‘Otis’ from ‘Watch the Throne?’ They took a torch to it, dismantled it and then went on a closed track ride, like two big kids. Well, the expensive “prop” is getting a second wind, so to speak, and will be auctioned for the Save the Children charity. The funds from the sale of the car will be allocated towards East African families.

The auction is scheduled for March 8 in NYC.

“Jay-Z and Kanye West are towering figures in contemporary culture,” Simon de Pury of Phillips de Prury and Company said in a statement about why the ride is headed for the auction block. “They have greatly contributed to the artificial barriers between art, music, fashion and cinema to come down. Their video for ‘Otis’ became an instant classic. The Maybach they have transformed for it has the starring role.”

Because of that “starring role status,” they expect the wheels to rake in more than $100,000 when the hammer comes down. That amount will help feed more than 4,000 children in the Horn of Africa for a month.

Carolyn Miles, President and CEO of Save the Children said, “The funds raised from auctioning off the ‘Otis” car are greatly needed to help sustain families over the next several months. We are grateful to Jay-Z and Kanye West for offering up pop culture history to do good for children in Africa.”
