The Minnesota Vikings announced this week that fans of the Purple & Gold in the Land of 10,000 Lakes will be able to show their Purple Pride with specialty license plates that will also help a charitable cause.

The Minnesota Legislature passed legislation in May of 2023 that allows the charitable foundations of Minnesota's professional sports teams to offer specialty license plates for residents through the Minnesota Department of Driver & Vehicle Services.

The Vikings are taking advantage of this opportunity, sharing the design for their specialty plates - which will see proceeds go to the Minnesota Vikings Foundation, which has the central mission of advancing the well-being of youth through engaging health and education initiatives.

How do you get the Vikings specialty plates, and how much will they cost?

These specialty plates, which bear the team logo and highlight the Minneapolis skyline and pine trees of Northern Minnesota in purple, will be available from about 170 of the state's Driver and Vehicle Services offices as well as through drive.mn.gov.

Besides the normal vehicle plate fees you'd pay anyway for new license plates, the cost also includes an annual $30 contribution that goes to the Minnesota Vikings Foundation.

When will the Vikings specialty plates be available?

The new Minnesota Vikings Foundation plates will be available starting in January of 2024.

While you wait for your chance to get these new Vikings plates, here is some inspiration for things you could get on them. Just a note - I haven't checked that all of these are legal, or that they are available to claim.

Inspiration For Vikings-themed Specialty License Plates

After the announcement the Minnesota Vikings would have specialty license plates available for Minnesota drivers, I thought it would be a good idea to offer some inspiration for custom things to put on your SKOL-themed plates.
