Nicki Minaj Gets Biblical in ‘Freedom’ Video
Nicki Minaj has some big sandals to fill in her ‘Freedom’ video, which paints her as Jesus Christ.
Those familiar with the Bible may notice that the clip has some anachronism going on — Jesus was supposedly nowhere near Noah’s ark, seeing as he hadn’t been born yet (not for a while), but Nicki sports a thorned crown in front of an ark. In one scene, she even extends her arms horizontally, clearly invoking an image of crucifixion. The video starts out in black and white, then eventually bleeds into muted colors, which is a big change for the Technicolor-enhanced starlet. It’s an interesting watch, and one that Kanye West may be proud of, as it’s reminiscent of ‘Jesus Walks.’
