Selena Gomez Has the Best Birthday Ever, Wins Choice Music Group at 2012 Teen Choice Awards
Tonight (July 22) Selena Gomez received the best birthday gift ever. During the 2012 Teen Choice Awards, Selena Gomez and the Scene won Choice Music Group, as voted on by more than a million of America’s teens. The newest choice of America’s teens beat out LMFAO, the Wanted, Lady Antebellum and Gym Class Heroes for the honor of taking home a shiny surfboard.
As she received her hard-earned board, Gomez began by admitting she was embarrassed that her band wasn’t there to accept the award with her. She said the award was for them. She then thanked everyone who voted and then told America, “This is the best birthday present ever. Thank you so much!”
But Selena was in for another birthday surprise. Presenters Nina Dobrev and Kevin Hart rushed on the stage to tell her she couldn’t leave yet. Hart said they heard it was her birthday and told her that at his house, birthdays are celebrated, so she couldn’t go until everyone celebrated hers.
As someone wheeled out a cart of rather tasty looking cakes with lit sparklers in them, Hart led the entire audience in a round of ‘Happy Birthday.’ Not many of us can say we’ve had Taylor Swift sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to us, and even fewer of us can say we won a Teen Choice Award at the same time. Selena Gomez definitely had a night to remember this year.
