Did you know that the record holder for the largest ball of twine lives in Lake Nebagamon Wisconsin?

James Frank Kotera is the proud owner and maker of the largest ball of twine in the United States which comes in at a whopping 22,425 pounds. Roadsideamerica.com sat down with James in February of this year to find out about this man and his very interesting hobby.

James who likes to go by the name JFK started working on the ball of twine way back in 1979. James has a certain pattern that he follows as well to make the twine look like synapses in a brain. James makes sure to  take very good care of his prized possession, which is under an open air shelter resting on cinder blocks.

Believe it or not this is not the only gigantic ball of twine out there, these three round out the list:

  • Cawker City, Kansas @ 20,230 lbs
  • Darwin Minnesota @ 17,400 lbs
  • Branson Missouri @ 13,000 lbs

Visitors are welcome and it is free to check out this monstrosity, for directions to James home Click here
