This live report didn't go down the tubes as much as it went down the tuba.

Fox 10 Phoenix reporter Cory McCloskey was reporting with the band from Desert Vista High School when he dropped his microphone in the tuba (or the sousaphone -- we're not sure which, to be honest).

What ensues is static and then silence before the anchors back in the studio jump in to explain what happened and enjoy a nice chuckle.

McCloskey put up a valiant fight retrieve it and even got on the floor to get the right angle to wiggle the mic out.

As he declared, "Victory!" Maybe next time he wants to get close to an instrument, he'll consider a less dangerous instrument, like the flute or the piccolo.

The clip spread like wildfire on the station's Facebook page.
