UPDATE: West Arrowhead Road Reopens Following Police Investigation Into Fatal Motorcycle Crash

The Duluth Police Department shared a final update on this incident, disclosing the identity of the individual who died Monday morning at the scene of this crash on Monday morning.

The department shared that the motorcyclist who died as a result of injuries suffered in the incident described below was 20-year-old Leo Buxbaum. The department shared its condolences to the family, saying "Our thoughts and prayers go to his family, friends, and loved ones." in their update.

Following the conclusion of their investigation, the closed portion of West Arrowhead Road has reopened to traffic.

The Duluth Police Department updated the public on the situation on West Arrowhead Road, sharing some additional details on the incident that led to a road closure on Monday morning.

The update from the DPD explained that around 8:30 am on Monday morning, officers responded to the report of a motorcycle crash. An initial investigation indicated that a motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed, striking another vehicle, and crashing into a pole.

The department says the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but died immediately from injuries related to the incident. Additional information will be provided at a later time.

In the meantime, the department says that the portion of West Arrowhead Road closed Monday morning for the investigation does remain closed as of their latest update. You can see more about the closure in the information below.

The Duluth Police Department shared a message on social media Monday morning, explaining that a stretch of West Arrowhead Road is closed Monday morning as officers conduct an investigation.

The closure impacts the stretch of Arrowhead Road between Rice Lake Road and Kenwood Avenue, as highlighted in red on the map below. The department is encouraging the public to use alternative routes until their investigation is concluded and they are able to reopen this stretch of roadway.

The investigation is related to a traffic fatality on the roadway. The department offered no other details on the situation, except noting that this is an active investigation and that no other details will be released at the time of their post.
