"Fishing lodges across the United States offer a unique blend of relaxation, adventure, and connection with nature," says USA Today. The diversity of lodges ranges from Alaska to the South.
A Minnesota Favorite: Ballard’s Resort
Representing Minnesota is a family-owned business that opened in 1961 and has just been named the #3 fishing lodge in the country by the USA Today readers.
Open year-round on the shores of Lake of the Woods near Baudette, Ballard's Resort has become one of the state's best places to fish for trophy walleye, smallmouth bass, muskie, perch, northern pike, sturgeon, and more.

USA Today points out that "Ballard's Resort matches guests with guides who know the region's waters, fishing hot spots, and seasonal patterns," which gives anglers the best opportunity to snag a trophy fish.
Ballard's Resort offers cozy cabins, plus the spacious lodge has a restaurant and bar, all with spectacular waterfront views of Lake of the Woods.
Why Ballard’s Stands Out - Climbing the Rankings
This #3 finish for Ballard's Resort is a big jump from last year. In the 2024 Reader's Choice Awards, they finished in 9th place. Maybe next year they can make the jump to #1.
