On April 22nd, work began on replacing County Bridge 918, this is the bridge on W Skyline Pkwy leading to Spirit Mountain that goes over Knowlton Creek and some CN Railway tracks.
Crews spent the summer replacing the bridge and doing some "stream restoration work on Knowlton Creek so it again flows as an open natural channel," according to St. Louis County.
The $3.2 million project was much needed, anyone that visited Spirit Mountain knows how bad that bridge was, the new bridge looks great, enjoy it before the inevitable potholes start popping up in the coming years.
Th
e timing for the bridge reopening is great timing, as fall colors in the Northland are peaking, and Spirit Mountain is one of the best places to take in some fall fun and views, before the snow flies and the ski hills get active for the season.
During the construction, vehicles were detoured on Westgate Blvd, crossing I-35 on Ugstad Road, and then following Mountain Dr., bypassing the bridge and giving normal access to the main chalet off of W Skyline Parkway.
