Friday marks launch day for what Apple is calling the biggest thing in iPhone yet, the iPhone X. The new device has a new form-factor and new technology (to Apple devices), and is in short supply. So, can you get one in Duluth?

After reports that almost no carrier retailers would have the phone in stock for launch day and that Apple Stores would only have a limited supply, people in Duluth might be out of luck if they didn't pre-order last week. Curious if there was even a chance, I set out to find one in Duluth.

Best Buy employees at the Duluth store explained to me they got on a small number of the devices, but they were all delivered to fulfill pre-orders from customers that jumped on the early order bandwagon. Other retailers like Target and Wal-Mart reportedly didn't get any in for today either, but I was not able to verify personally. This leaves carrier stores like the AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile stores. Considering the reports cited above, it wasn't promising. Nonetheless, I went on the journey. See how it went in the video above.

As it turns out, the shipping strategy from Apple was to offer a limited supply to "flagship stores" regionally, and the AT&T store at the Miller Hill Mall was one of the locations to get a shipment. Staff there told me they weren't expecting to have any at all on launch day, but late this week they were sent a small supply of the device to sell. As I mentioned above, Best Buy did also get some locally, but they used their supply to meet pre-order demands.

If you're looking to get your hands on the new device, your experience may vary, depending on carrier. The major carriers (like Verizon & AT&T) will likely have better odds of getting supply before smaller carriers. Orders for the device as of today have delivery dates in mid-December. If you're hoping to get your hands on the new device, you might need to just place an order and wait if you don't want to keep checking retailers every week.
