Como Park Zoo Welcomes First Baby Puffin in Zoo’s History
The Como Park Zoo in St. Paul is celebrating the birth of the first puffin in the zoo's history.
The zoo started exhibiting puffins in 1987 and this first puffin chick was born on July 31st to Bug and Rocky and has yet to be named.
The sex of the puffin is still unknown and the chick remains off exhibit for another 5-6 weeks while it burrows as it would in the wild.
Eating a healthy diet of smelt and tiny herring the puffin weighs 171 grams and the zoo says it's growing quickly.
