Essentia Health has revealed details about the start of their massive new construction project called Vision Northland. According to CBS3 many roads are going to be closed with posted detours for a project of this magnitude. Demolition begins inside the Amendola Building on Superior Street September 9th, with demo of the actual building itself on October 9th. Also the Blue Parking Ramp will close on September 30th in preparation for the demolition.

This $800 million dollar project is expected to take around three years to complete. of that total budget here is the breakdown according to Essentia Health around $675 million will be used to construct a replacement hospital bed tower, clinic space and surgical suites to replace buildings on its downtown Duluth campus.  Another $125 million on related infrastructure and financing.

"The project will build approximately 928,000 square feet of new space and renovate approximately 120,000 square feet in existing facilities. By consolidating our campus, Essentia Health’s overall footprint will be reduced, opening space for other development in Duluth’s Central Hillside neighborhood."

Of course with a complex of this size being built streets will be blocked off and detours set up for quite a while. For information on what areas of Duluth will be affected Click Here.
