The Australian pop-punk band 5 Seconds of Summer released their followup single to "She's Kinda Hot" last month, and the first time I listened to it, it sounded super familiar."Hey Everybody", the second single off the band's album, opens up almost immediately with what sounded to me like a spot-on match of the melody to the 1982 hit song "Hungry Like the Wolf" by Duran Duran. While the chorus doesn't really match up, the verses certainly do. Give a listen to the opening parts of both songs below.

As it turns out, those similarities aren't just coincidences. According to an article by Music Times, the group purposely (heavily) sampled the Duran Duran song to give "Hey Everybody" a catchiness and familiarity with their own spin on it. Calum Hood, 5 Seconds of Summer's bassist commented to USA Today about the sampling of the classic hit, saying:

I'm not a massive Duran Duran fan, but I probably should've known one of the biggest songs in the world with the melody. No one realized it until we laid it down and someone said, 'The best thing about it is that when people listen to this first verse, it'll put a smile on their face because it's something familiar.' So we just went with it.
