The Duluth Fire Department responded to a call of a fire on Sunday afternoon and found a scared pup.

The call came in around 3 PM when a neighbor heard smoke detectors sounding off and after investigating, found smoke coming from the kitchen area and got no response when they knocked on the door.

The two-story single-family home located on the 400 block of North 39th Avenue West was indeed on fire, the neighbor called 911 and Officer Sauve from the Duluth Police Department arrived on the scene first with units from the Lincoln Park firehouse arriving on the scene within three minutes of the dispatch.

The two responding fire engine crews quickly attacked the fire from the rear of the house directly into the kitchen and quickly put it out. Fire damage was limited to the kitchen area, but smoke spread to the entire house.

While the crew from Lincoln Park was dealing with the fire, the 8 Quint crew from Spirit Valley did a search of the house and found Betty, a four-year-old bulldog, on the second floor. Betty was surely scared, but was unharmed in the fire and was given some water and cared for by Officer Sauve until the owner of the house arrived.

The owner was in the process of moving into the house when the fire happened and quickly returned home when he was notified by authorities. The fire was determined to be accidental and total damage is about $6000.
