City officials with the City of Duluth are reporting that Wednesday night's fireworks and other Fourth Fest festivities are being moved to Thursday night, July 5th due to the threat of storms during the afternoon and evening hours of July 4th.

The following statement was issued on the City of Duluth's Facebook event page:

July 4th festivities to be held July 5th:

The City of Duluth and the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center are announcing that the traditional July 4th festivities will be delayed to July 5th in the interest of public safety and due to the high risk of rain and thunderstorms this evening. The "Fifth Fest" events at Bayfront Festival Park will follow the same schedule with gates opening at 4 pm for the public to enjoy vendors and free musical performances starting at 4:30 until 10 pm. The fireworks display will then light up the beautiful clear night sky at 10:10 pm and will last about 20-25 minutes. The Aerial Lift Bridge will also be lit red, white and blue.

Bayfront Festival Park shared further information:

The forecast for Thursday looks much more promising, with no substantial threat of rain at all. Daytime weather is expected to be sunny and in the mid to upper 70s, while evening conditions are expected to remain clear and cool to the low 60s and upper 50s around the region.
