Freezing Rain Advisory Issued For Twin Ports Region Today
The National Weather Service has issued a freezing rain advisory until noon today for the area for light icing from near-freezing temperatures and light rainfall this morning. Roadways may become icy, so drive with caution. Here are the details from the National Weather Service:
LIGHT RAIN AND DRIZZLE SPREADING THROUGH PARTS OF CENTRAL AND
NORTHEAST MINNESOTA...AS WELL AS NORTHWEST WISCONSIN...WILL
RESULT IN SOME ICING ON ROAD SURFACES. EVEN THOUGH AIR
TEMPERATURES ARE SLIGHTLY ABOVE FREEZING IN MANY AREAS...ROAD
TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE REGION ARE BELOW OR NEAR THE FREEZING
MARK...SO THE RAIN WILL FREEZE ON THE COLD ROAD SURFACES UNTIL
THE ROAD TEMPERATURES SUFFICIENTLY WARM UP ENOUGH BY EARLY THIS
AFTERNOON. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY REPORTS OF SPIN OUTS IN THE AREA.
SECONDARY AND INSUFFICIENTLY TREATED ROADS WILL LIKELY BE MORE
AFFECTED THE MAIN ROADS. EXPECT THE ICING TO CAUSE DIFFICULT
DRIVING CONDITIONS IN SOME AREAS.
...FREEZING RAIN ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON CST
TODAY...
* LOCATIONS...NORTHWEST WISCONSIN AND MUCH OF CENTRAL INTO
NORTHEAST MINNESOTA.
* ICE ACCUMULATIONS...LESS THAN FIVE HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH.
* TIMING...THIS MORNING.
* IMPACTS...ICING ON ROAD SURFACES WILL CAUSE SLIPPERY DRIVING
CONDITIONS IN SOME AREAS...ESPECIALLY SECONDARY AND
INSUFFICIENTLY TREATED ROADS.
