If you use Arrowhead Road to get around, be aware that a stretch of the busy roadway will be shut down for a handful of days starting midweek this week.

The City of Hermantown put an alert out to the public on Tuesday morning that starting tomorrow (Wednesday, October 14), a utility installation project will shut down a busy portion of Arrowhead Road.

While the closure will not span a lengthy stretch of Arrowhead Road itself, it will require a detour around the project.

The closure will impact the area immediately east of the intersection of Arrowhead Road and Stebner Road. You can see the approximate closed roadway on the map below.

While through traffic will not be allowed during this project, access to homes and businesses along Arrowhead Road between Stebner Road and US Highway 53 will still be available from the other direction.

Access to homes and businesses along Arrowhead Road will need to come from US Highway 53, as the roadway near the intersection of Arrowhead Road and Stebner Road is where the work is being completed.

For through traffic along Arrowhead Road during this project, using Highway 53 and Stebner Road to get around the project would be the recommended detour (as seen in green on the map below).

Officials with the City of Hermantown anticipate the work to last through the remainder of the week, with the completion of the utility work expected to be wrapped up by sometime on Friday, October 16, as long as the weather cooperates.

The 16 Least Snowy Winters On Record In Duluth History

Since the National Weather Service began keeping weather records in Duluth in the late 1800s, here are the 16 winters with the lowest snowfall totals on historical record.

It is worth noting that the official records from 1941-today have been recorded at the area now known as the Duluth International Airport (away from the lake, on top of the hill). Before then, various locations closer to Lake Superior had been used for official weather recording data. For anyone that knows anything about how Lake Superior and the hill play a role in temperature and snow, you can see how this makes older records inherently different.

While these records note the "least snowy winters", they actually include all seasonal snowfall from July 1 through June 30 of the following year.
