It’s Coming, A Toy Revolution Of Plastic Army Women Figures

BMC Toys is the company behind the first ever Plastic Army Women. This will be a new set of original toy soldier figures that is in development for production in 2020. The set will include 36 pieces in 15 different poses. A 36-pack of figures will come in green, tan or pink and will sell for about $14.

Jeff Imel who is the owner of BMC Toys said he has been thinking about making these for quite a while and made prototypes back in 2018. A female retired navy sailor put the bug in Jeff's ear that this toy might actually sell. Then a 6 year old girl named Vivian Lord sent him a letter and that put the project in gear. According to WGN9  her letter said "Please can you make army girls that look like women? I would play with them every day and my friends would to."

Due to the enormous cost of developing a new toy like this Imel started a Kickstarter campaign last November which raised over $55,000 dollars.  According to the BMC website here is how they describe this toy. "This is a set of real American Made plastic heroes, meant to be set up, knocked down, picked up and played with for years to come. Packed in polybag with insert card and recommended for ages 5 and up."

I vividly remember playing with my brothers Army Men set, they had a giant bag of them but I guess a girl playing with just a handful of them was not cool, and they would take them away from me.  When I saw Toy Story the movie for the first time and they had the army men rappelling down to the ground and when they ran they shuffled because their feet were glued to the little green patch beneath I died laughing. These toys are a fabric of our society and everyone should be represented.

It is so important for girls to have these little action figures, to use their imaginations and understand that thousands of women serve in the military doing these jobs. And for now just be a kid and play with their friends, and who knows maybe her brothers might be doing the asking to play with them this time?
