For some they might think that the second week in September is to early to start picking out pumpkins, but as long as they are kept dry and out of the frost your pumpkin should hold up just fine until Halloween. That is why Farmer Doug's pumpkin patch will open this weekend for people to start coming out and picking out their favorite one .

Going to an actual Pumpkin Patch is a rite of passage for so many people and makes the whole experience that much more fun. Farmer Doug has been around for the last 35 years providing Christmas Trees, Fresh Maple Syrup and Pumpkins to people in the Northland. They are Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in September. 9am to 4pm. and are located at 3361 Lindahl Rd. in Duluth.

Even though we did not get much rain this summer the warm temperatures are the perfect formula for growing pumpkins. Lois Hoffbauer co-owner of Farmer Doug said to FOX21:

Pumpkins really thrived this year because it was so hot. They like warm weather, and if we get them in early and there’s moisture in the ground when we did plant, and the roots go deep, they don’t need as much water as other plants do.

Farmer Doug's Pumpkin patch will be open the next three weekends with a wide selection of pumpkins to choose from. They estimate they have around 1,000 of them out in the patches all together. I always love to see the smallest kids always seem to grab the biggest pumpkin they can find. Everyone can come out and enjoy apple cider pressing and some fall flavored treats as well. The search is on for the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, and I am guessing that you just might find it at Farmer Doug's!
