LOOK: New License Plate Design Now Available In Wisconsin
Although Wisconsin has yet to approve "blackout" license plates, which have become very popular in states like Minnesota and Iowa, they do have a wide variety of license plates to choose from.
Many of these are special plates that help raise money for specific organizations and causes. Earlier this year two new license plates were made available in Wisconsin, the 'Suicide Prevention' plate and the 'Spay, Neuter, Adopt' plate.
Proceeds from the 'Suicide Prevention' plate go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, a non-profit organization that works to eliminate the loss of life from suicide. 'Spay, Neuter, Adopt' license plate proceeds benefit The Fix Is In, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides financial and other support for the spay/neuter of cats and dogs in Wisconsin.
This week, another new Wisconsin license plate was released and it's a beautiful design that outdoor enthusiasts will likely be excited about.
Wisconsin Department Of Transportation Announces New License Plate Design
On October 9, the International Crane Foundation excitedly announced that the new 'Cranes of Wisconsin' license plates were available to order from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
Wisconsin artist Jay Jocham designed the plates and they feature the two species of cranes native to North America and Wisconsin: the Sandhill Crane and the Endangered Whooping Crane.
Dr. Rich Beilfuss, President and CEO of the International Crane Foundation is excited that the cranes will get a lot of exposure out on the roads and that proceeds from the new plates will support the important work they do.
The International Crane Foundation, headquartered in Baraboo, Wisconsin, works worldwide to conserve cranes and the ecosystems, watersheds, and flyways on which they depend. The organization also goes a step further by providing "knowledge, leadership, and inspiration to engage people in resolving threats to cranes and their diverse landscapes."
How To Get A 'Cranes Of Wisconsin' License Plate
The special license plate is available as of October 9, 2024, and can be ordered directly from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. They can purchased at any time, not just at your annual license plate renewal date.
The cost is $15 when the new plate is first issued, then an additional $15 for each renewal period.
For each plate and subsequent annual registration, you'll also make a tax-deductible donation of $25 to the International Crane Foundation. Funds from the license plate are earmarked to support two of the Foundation’s key projects in Wisconsin: the continued efforts to reintroduce the Endangered Whooping Crane and the resolution of crop damage caused by Sandhill Cranes.
