MedExpress Is Reportedly Closing Their Duluth Location

Patients of the Duluth MedExpress location on Miller Trunk Highway have started receiving emails this week, explaining that the location will be closing very soon. Other Minnesota locations like Rochester are reporting similar closure messages.

The emails sent from the company read, in part, as follows:

Dear Valued Patient,

As your neighborhood medical center, we want to let you know about an important change taking place at our Duluth location (501 W. Central Entrance).

MedExpress has made the difficult decision to close this location.

The email goes on to explain that the Duluth location's last day of service to patients will be Thursday, August 27. The message continues by offering the alternative of visiting the Cloquet location on Highway 33, which will remain open. It is noted that patients of the Duluth clinic will also be able to access their medical records either by calling MedExpress at 304-985-3636 or visiting medexpress.com/medical-records.

Aside from Cloquet, the next closest locations are in Bemidji, as well as a handful of locations in the Twin Cities area.

The urgent care chain announced it would be coming to Duluth and Cloquet in 2016, adding a new urgent care option to the Twin Ports scene otherwise heavily populated by offerings from St. Luke's and Essentia Health. The Duluth location opened in 2017, and will now close roughly three years after opening.

MedExpress was founded in 2001 on West Virginia, expanding aggressively into the Midwest in recent years. It was purchased in 2015 by the Optum division of Minnesota-based UnitedHealth Group.
