The germ-killer triclosan that is in certain soaps will be banned in Minnesota effective Jan. 1,2017 the first state in the country to do so and this a big game changer for many companies.

Many manufacturers have already replaced this chemical in their products and the ban will be nationwide by September 2017. Triclosan was once used widely in anti-bacterial soaps, deodorants and even some toothpastes. Studies began to show that it could have negative effects on peoples sex and thyroid hormones, and effect other bodily functions. Plus scientists were concerned that users would build up a resistance to bacteria.

Consumers need to be aware as some of these products are still on the shelves, but it is good to know that within this year Nationwide safer anti bacterial products will be on the market.
