How Does Minnesota Rank Among States Most Likely To Survive An Alien Attack?
While it might seem pretty far-fetched, let's entertain something seen in countless movies over the years.
Just how well-equipped is Minnesota for surviving a UFO invasion or alien attack?
With a growing number of UFO sightings in Minnesota over the last few years, it is probably something that weighs (at least a little) on some people's minds.
As it turns out, not every state is destined to be as well-off as others when it comes to the ability to survive an invasion from extraterrestrials. Researchers with the website GIGACalculator crunched the numbers to see what states might fare best in the event of an alien invasion.
Crunching the numbers
The team used a series of data that includes the overall population, places to hide, law enforcement and military, the number of scientists/engineers/health care professionals, and other factors that would all come in handy if you're looking to ride out a not-so-friendly visit from creatures out of this world.

They used all of this data to develop an overall "Alien Survival Score", with 10 being the best possible score and zero being "you're screwed", more or less.
As it turns out, Minnesota is actually in a pretty good spot when compared to most of the country!
How does Minnesota rank among states for surviving an alien invasion?
Overall, Minnesota has a score of 7.79 out of 10, which is among the best in the whole country.
A couple of the key areas that help Minnesota are having a higher number of medical professionals, scientists, and engineers per 1,000 people than most states.
Added to that, Minnesota also has a lower overall military presence (13th lowest military force per capita in the country). While that might seem like Minnesota is more defenseless than other states, it also means there are fewer perceived threats.

Minnesota otherwise ranks somewhere in the middle of the pack in most other categories the analysts used.

In all, Minnesota's survivability score of 7.79 is actually the fifth-best in the country, behind Virginia, Alabama, Massachusetts, and New York.
Minnesota is also on the lower side of UFO sightings per capita. While that's true, the number has been trending upward in recent years. Here's a look at all of the reported sightings from 2024.
