One Minnesota woman just returned from an incredible journey to China. She wasn’t there as a tourist snapping photos at famous landmarks, but instead as a competitor in the world championships of tug-of-war.

Yes, you read that right. Competitive tug-of-war isn’t just a backyard picnic game, it is an organized international sport with leagues, tournaments, and world championships. This year, the event was held in China, and Katelyn Sticha of Northfield proudly represented Team USA.

Now, at 32, Sticha is one of nine women who pulled for the USA Tug-of-War Women’s Team at The World Games. These games are often described as the “alternate Olympics,” featuring sports not included in the Olympic lineup.

Minnesota Representing For Team USA

Team USA went up against six other countries, including Switzerland, England, and Taiwan. Despite their determination, the American squad finished sixth overall.

While the results weren’t what they had hoped for, Sticha told FOX 9 that the experience of competing on the world stage was unforgettable.

“It was very rewarding to be at that level, to be able to experience, okay, this is a big deal,” she said. “To represent my country in something so unique was truly amazing.”

Tour Minnesota's Fanciest Mini Golf Course - The Centennial Lakes Putting Course

While they won't call it a mini golf course, it kind of is. This 18-hole course boasts all real grass playing surfaces, natural obstacles like sand traps, boulders, and water, just like a real golf course.

The whole course looks and feels like a shrunken golf course, and it plays like one, too! The holes are long! The shortest hole is 57 feet, the longest is 125 feet, and the whole 18-hole course plays 1,662 feet.

This is no ordinary mini golf course!
