The calendar says the first official day of spring in 2022 is Sunday, March 20 and this year it appears that Mother Nature will be on point in the Northland, even if Old Man Winter butts back in shortly thereafter.

First, the good news. The National Weather Service in Duluth is forecasting a nice warmup into the weekend, which will create an amazing first day of spring across the the Northland.

The shared a very optimistic graphic Thursday on the US National Weather Service Duluth Minnesota Facebook page, along with a prediction I think we all love:

A dry period is expected across much of the Northland into this weekend. Temperatures will rise Friday into Sunday, peaking Sunday from 45 to 56 degrees!

So, regardless of where you are in the Northland, you'll be able to enjoy the first day of spring, with some areas loving it more than others.

Justin Liles, Chief Meteorologist with our media partners at WDIO-TV, as currently forecasted a nice weekend, if not as optimistic on just how warm it will get for the Twin Ports area. He is currently predicting mostly sunny high of 46 on Saturday, with a sunny high closer to 50 on Sunday.

Of course, we all know that weather can quickly turn this time of year and such is the case with the extended forecast. Justin Liles says next Monday, March 21 through Wednesday, March 23 will bring back a taste of winter weather for the Northland.

Currently, Justin is predicting a chance for the fun combination of snow, and freezing rain each of those days, with highs back down to the upper 30's to low 40's.

But, let's now focus on that, we're tough and we'll get through it. Instead, let's focus on the amazing weekend that ends with a beautiful first day of spring. Get out there and enjoy!
