Springtime in Minnesota is finally arriving, and visible signs of the season are quite literally popping up all over the place.

One very popular sign of springtime is the annual tulip bloom. You might have some tulips planted in a flower bed in your yard that offer some colorful springtime beauty, but one Minnesota destination offers tens of thousands of tulips all in one place that make for a breathtaking springtime visit.

I'm talking, of course, about the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in the Twin Cities area. "The Arb", as is it is nicknamed, is a 1,200-acre facility in Chaska, in the southwestern part of the Twin Cities area.

This expansive property shows off the incredibly diverse plant life, from flowers to trees and beyond, that can and do grow in Minnesota. One of the outdoor displays is an area of around 40,000 tulips that bloom each spring, allowing you to quite literally tip-toe through the tulips (or take photos, or just soak in the beauty).

The photo above is just one example of the expansive tulip area that covers way more space with lots of different colors and styles of tulips.

The tulip bloom is one of the biggest draws each year for the arboretum, and the season is starting to get underway!

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum regularly updates the public on what is blooming via their social media, and they just yesterday (April 21) shared that tulips are now starting to bloom! On April 1, the Arboretum shared that this year's tulips had sprouted, and a few weeks later, the first colorful booms are appearing!

As you can see in their post, just the first few blooms are getting underway, so the peak bloom is expected to happen over the next couple of weeks, as we transition from April into May.

Predicting peak bloom is tricky to do, but I'd guess the first couple of weeks of May will be the optimal time to see the tulips in their full glory. While you're at it, there are lots of other things also in bloom at the arboretum. Among them are the daffodils, as seen below.

If you're planning a trip, I'd recommend at least a few hours to really enjoy all the Arboretum has to offer. The tulips are all relatively near the main visitor center building, and you could easily spend an hour enjoying them alone.

There are other booms near the main buildings worth seeing, plus the "Three Mile Drive" that shows off other worthwhile areas of the arboretum. On top of that, there are walking trails and plenty of things to see and do that could easily occupy a full day if you wanted to explore everything there.

Below is one of the scenes along the "Three Mile Drive" from a couple of years ago, just to give you a taste of why you want to make the journey around the oudoor space.

Hours for various parts of the arboretum grounds vary by specific attraction and time of year. The facility itself is open every day, except for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. You can see the latest seasonal hours, details about tours, or get tickets via the arboretum's website.
